Salinas, Calif. (May 2, 2026) - A cold and blustery day set the tone for IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship qualifying on Saturday, setting the stage for the StubHub Monterey SportsCar Championship. Nick Yelloly - No. 93 Acura ARX-06 - and Tom Blomqvist - No. 60 Acura ARX-06 - took the controls for qualifying for Acura Meyer Shank Racing (Acura MSR), putting the team entries third and fifth.
A narrow window to put down a fast lap challenged the grid on the notoriously slippery 2.238-mile permanentroad course. Yelloly got to a quick start putting the No. 93 Acura provisionally on the front row after posting a 1:13.696-second lap with just three-minutes remaining in the session. But with one competitor advancing in the final moments, Yelloly and teammate Renger van der Zande will start third for Sunday’s main event.
Blomqvist had a challenging session managing the balance of the No. 60 Acura. After running wide in Turn 2, Blomqvist reset and set a lap time of 1:13.860-seconds, just six-tenths off of pole, which put him and Colin Braun fifth on the starting grid.
Sunday’s two-hour, 40-minute StubHub Monterey SportsCar Championship will go green at 4:10pm ET with live coverage on NBCSN and Peacock. IMSA Radio will also host live radio coverage on SiriusXM channel 206.
Acura Meyer Shank Racing Driver Quote:
Nick Yelloly: “I think we maximized everything we had and clearly the Cadillacs have done a great job this weekend. I’m sure I can get race-y in turn one and make up a place or even two, and try to make their life as difficult as possible. Starting further forward at a circuit like this always opens up strategy and obviously, good fun for the race start. Happy for everyone here at Acura MSR and HRC and looking forward to tomorrow.”
Tom Blomqvist: “Terrible session for me. I couldn’t get the tire in the window. I pushed a bit early and went off. It was just a disaster. I really struggled for the balance and couldn’t get a rhythm. We maybe weren’t going to fight for pole anyway, but still disappointing.”
