Penalty for practice incidents saw Acura MSR unofficially qualify fifth and eighth
Monterey, Calif. (10 May 2025) – Acura Meyer Shank Racing with Curb-Agajanian (Acura MSR) unofficially qualified fifth and eighth at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca for the fourth round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season on Saturday.
Both teams entered the 15-minute session knowing that their best laps would be disallowed due to bringing out a red flag in separate practice sessions at the historic circuit.
Tom Blomqvist lost one position due to the penalty in the No. 60 Acura ARX-06, settling for fifth on the grid with a second-best lap of 1:13.058-seconds. Nick Yelloly will start eighth in the No. 93 Acura ARX-06 with a lap of 1:13.535-seconds.
The TireRack.com Monterey SportsCar Championship takes the green flag at 3:10 p.m. ET. The race will be covered live flag-to-flag on NBC, along with being streamed on Peacock and broadcast on SiriusXM channel 206.
Meyer Shank Racing Team Quotes:
Tom Blomqvist: “It’s a bit frustrating in qualifying when you know it’s so tight. I was a bit conservative, but nonetheless it’s a good result. I think we were hoping for more to be honest, but equally I guess a little bit what we expected. The Acuras had a tough year last year here, but I think we made some good gains from the performance of last year. We can still have a good race from there, we just have to be smart and see what we can do tomorrow.”
Nick Yelloly: “Obviously we’re not first, so it’s not great. We struggled a bit today with extracting the most out of the car in qualifying, but I think we have a better race car. It’s a shame for the incident I had in practice which cost us our fastest lap in qualifying, although I don’t think it would have made much of a difference at least in our case. There’s a lot that can happen tomorrow, so we’ll try to put it together and move forward.”
