Sebring, Fla. (14 March 2025) – Acura Meyer Shank Racing’s (“Acura MSR”) last-lap charge in an abbreviated qualifying session came up 0.025-seconds short, with Tom Blomqvist taking the outside pole in qualifying for the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, the second round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship (Saturday, 10:00am, Peacock, SiriusXM channel 206).
With an early red flag reducing Friday’s scheduled 15-minute session to a three-lap sprint, Blomqvist ran a best lap of 1:47.116-seconds in the No. 60 Acura MSR with Curb-Agajanian Acura ARX-06 co-driven by Colin Braun and Scott Dixon.
Blomqvist went to second on his first flying lap following the restart with four minutes remaining. He briefly took the pole on his second lap, only to be edged out moments later. With one final opportunity, Blomqvist improved but came up a fraction shy coming to the checkered flag.
MSR teammate Renger van der Zande improved from 12th to sixth on his last lap, running 1:48.108-seconds in the No. 93 Acura shared with Nick Yelloly and Alex Palou.
The No. 60 Acura is coming off a close second-place finish in the season-opening Rolex 24 At Daytona. Braun is a three-time Sebring winner, while Blomqvist and six-time IndyCar champ Dixon are looking for their first victory at the historic airport circuit.
The Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring will have flag-to-flag coverage this weekend on Peacock starting on Saturday, March 15th at 10 a.m. ET, with the green flag at 10:10 a.m. Live IMSA radio coverage can also be accessed on SiriusXM channel 206.
Meyer Shank Racing Team Quotes:
Tom Blomqvist: “Not bad. It was a difficult session with the red flag, it seems to be quite a common theme. I struggled with the car a little bit, I just couldn’t really seem to switch on the tire. We didn’t have an issue with it yesterday, but today I struggled to switch it [the tires] on. We were missing a bit of grip with our peak performance, but it’s ok, second is a good start.”
Renger van Der Zande: “It’s a long race, but qualifying is a nice time to go for a fast lap, but it didn’t work out. I think with the traffic I needed a second lap and that wasn’t there because the checkered was out. We missed the timing a bit, but something to learn from. We have 12 hours to race and everything else really doesn’t matter.”
