Monterey, Calif. (6 September 2022) – Meyer Shank Racing (MSR) will wrap up the 2022 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season with Sunday’s Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca (3:00pm ET, NBC, SiriusXM Ch. 160).
Simon Pagenaud and Helio Castroneves will complete the Ohio-based team’s first full-season two-car Indycar program this weekend.
Pagenaud will get back in the No. 60 AutoNation / SiriusXM Honda for the 95-lap season-ending race. With WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca getting re-added back to the IndyCar schedule in 2019, Pagenaud has taken home a fourth place finish in 2019 and an eighth place finish in 2021.
Pagenaud’s 2022 IndyCar season was highlighted by a thrilling and rain-soaked second place finish at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in May. Pagenaud continued onto the Indianapolis 500 which saw him finish eighth, which was among seven top ten finishes this season for the Frenchman.
In addition to his IndyCar season, the Frenchman joined MSR’s IMSA program for the Rolex 24 Hours At Daytona in January which saw Pagenaud, along with Tom Blomqvist, Oliver Jarvis and Castroneves win overall in the No. 60 Acura ARX-05 DPi. The historic victory was the second overall Rolex 24 win for MSR.
Castroneves, driver of the No. 06 AutoNation / SiriusXM Honda, is completing his first full-season in the IndyCar ranks since 2017. Castroneves won his fourth Indianapolis 500 in 2021 – the first IndyCar victory for MSR – and was seventh in 2022, which was his best finish among three top-10 showings.
Castroneves competed at Laguna Seca last year with MSR, finishing 24th. Previously, he ran in four Champ Car events at the circuit, winning from the pole in 2000.
This will be the second visit to Laguna Seca for MSR this year, having competed at the northern California circuit in May in IMSA competition which saw the team finish second.
The Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey will air on NBC on Sunday starting at 3:00pm ET. SiriusXM will also host live IndyCar Radio coverage on XM Ch. 160.
Driver Quotes:
Simon Pagenaud:
“Laguna Seca is a phenomenal track and it’s the last race before we get the new tarmac since they are repaving it. I’m looking forward to using up the current tarmac – it creates lots of opportunities. You can make the outside lane work, the inside lane is usually used up – there is a lot of creativity involved which I enjoy. The corkscrew is, of course the corner that everyone knows, and I train on it. I really enjoy the rhythm of that track so let’s hope for a really good weekend.”
Helio Castroneves:
“We’re excited heading into Laguna Seca. We collected a lot of information this year and we’re definitely looking for a much better year next season. However, Laguna is an amazing place with the Corkscrew. We ran there last year and we know what we need to adjust heading into the weekend. We’re all hoping to finish the season off strong.”
