van der Zande smashes GTP track record; Braun qualifies the No. 60 Acura MSR Acura ARX-06 third for six hour classic

Watkins Glen, NY (21 June 2025) – Acura Meyer Shank Racing (“Acura MSR”) captured its second-consecutive IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship pole position on Saturday, with Renger van der Zande putting the No. 93 Acura ARX-6 up front for the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen (Sunday, 12:00pm ET, NBC, Peacock, SiriusXM Ch. 206).

van der Zande led qualifying with a lap of 1:31.558-seconds around the historic 3.4-mile circuit two weeks after teammate Nick Yelloly led qualifying on the streets of Detroit, where he joined van der Zande in scoring the team’s first victory of the season. Yelloly is also coming off an LMP2 class triumph in last weekend’s 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The pole lap also marks the new GTPt track record and was van der Zande’s first IMSA pole since he led qualifying for the 2018 Rolex 24 At Daytona. The result also marks Acura MSR’s fourth career pole position at Watkins Glen, scoring all four poles with Honda and Acura (2017, 2019, 2022, 2025).

Kakunoshin ‘Kaku’ Ohta will complete the lineup for the No. 93 Acura in Sunday’s event, Round 6 of the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and the third race in the Michelin Endurance Cup.

The sister car qualified by Colin Braun will start at the rear wing of his teammate, after qualifying third with a lap of 1:32.167-seconds in the No. 60 Acura ARX-6. He will be joined by Tom Blomqvist in the six hour classic.

The Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen takes the green flag at 12:10pm ET on Sunday. The first three hours will be televised live on NBC, with flag-to-flag streaming on Peacock. All WeatherTech Championship races are broadcast live on SiriusXM channel 206.

Meyer Shank Racing Driver Quotes:

Renger van Der Zande: “Pole position at Watkins Glen! It’s always nice to be at the front of the grid, but tomorrow is a six hour race and we have a long way to go with Nick and Kaku as my teammates. It’s nice to bang out a lap out on new tires and low fuel at Watkins Glen. It doesn’t get much better in our car.”

Colin Braun: “Overall the car felt really good. It was probably the best car we’ve had all weekend, so that was a good thing for us. We definitely made some improvements from the last practice. I think putting it all together after making those changes from Practice 2 was the key and we hadn’t really had very many consistent laps to feel what the tires do. Getting everything within the window was a good step forward for us. I feel like if we could redo it again we could find a little bit of performance in it, but overall I think we’re in a good spot for the start of the race tomorrow.”
