Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada (3 July 2023) – Meyer Shank Racing with Curb-Agajanian (MSR) will be looking to build on its podium momentum from the recent Sahlen’s Six Hours of Watkins Glen when it returns to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP) for the Grand Prix on Sunday, July 9, Round 6 of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship (12:00pm ET, NBC, SiriusXM Ch. 207).
MSR, which has more IMSA race starts than any other active team with 347 starts, is looking to make a successful return to the CTMP podium this weekend.
Colin Braun – a five-time winner at CTMP – and Tom Blomqvist inherited a podium in the previous IMSA round at The Glen’s endurance classic driving the No. 60 Acura ARX-06.
A year ago, Blomqvist and Oliver Jarvis scored their fifth-consecutive runner-up finish for MSR at the circuit formerly known as Mosport. The result gave MSR the lead in the DPi standings, which they held for the remainder of the championship. Blomqvist started on the pole after shattering Braun’s three-year-old all-time Mosport sports car qualifying mark with a lap of 1:04.394-seconds, and dominated the race for MSR.
Blomqvist has one additional career race at Mosport, starting second and finishing fourth in GTLM in 2019.
Braun competed in two ALMS races at the circuit, winning the PC pole in both 2012 and 2013. He won the 2013 event and finished second in 2012. He ran in six WeatherTech Championship races, winning four of them. Braun won in PC in 2015 and 2016; Prototype and overall in 2018; and LMP3 in last year’s event. He won the pole in record speed in 2019, but started at the back of the DPi grid for a driver change and finished seventh.
MSR also finished third in the 2016 event, with John Pew and Ozz Negri sharing a Ligier JS P2. The team also finished second in GTD in both 2017 and 2018.
Practice for the CTMP weekend begins with a 90-minute session on Friday at 2:50 p.m. (all times ET). Final practice is Saturday at 8 a.m., followed by GTP qualifying at 1:35 p.m. The race starts at 12:05 p.m. on Sunday.
The event will be broadcast live on NBC, starting at noon. SiriusXM will broadcast live on Channel 207.
Driver Quotes:
Tom Blomqvist:
“After inheriting a podium at Watkins Glen, it’s nice to score some half decent points after a bit of a tough run. We were slightly disappointed with the end result, I thought we had a chance at doing better. Last year for us at Mosport was decent, we finished second. This year with the new cars its going to be exciting. It’s a crazy fast track, very challenging as a driver. I’m excited, I’m ready and hopefully we can keep chipping away at it and improve the car a little bit from the last weekend. I think we have a chance at a good result there. The goal is to be on the podium, hopefully the top step, but we have to work hard towards that and improve on our weaknesses.”
Colin Braun:
“I cannot wait to drive the Acura GTP car at Mosport. I love this track and the fast corners. It will be a very intense race with the speed of the GTP cars and the sheer numbers of cars in the field. We have some good momentum from Watkins Glen that I think we can use to build into another strong result. MSR was very strong here in 2022 so I am feeling confident.”
