Championship co-leaders look for home track success on Sunday
Mansfield, OH (14 May 2022) – Arriving at the home track carrying the momentum of a strong podium result and tied for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship lead, Meyer Shank Racing (MSR) was eager to kick things off at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course this weekend. Located just 60 miles north of its brand new 42,000 square foot facility, Mid-Ohio has been central to the team’s history since day one.
With a promising start in the opening practice sessions, MSR IMSA drivers Oliver Jarvis and Tom Blomqvist had a strong package heading into the weekend and are looking to deliver MSR its first Mid-Ohio victory on Sunday.
Jarvis and Blomqvist got off to a quick start in the No. 60 MSR Acura ARX-05 DPi for Practice 1, finishing out the session second fastest and just one-tenth off of P1. The team continued that momentum into practice on Saturday morning with another P2 finish after leading the majority of the session.
After an impressive P2 qualifying run at Laguna Seca, Jarvis once again slotted in for qualifying duties on board the No. 60 Acura on Saturday afternoon. With rain coming through the area, the qualifying session was put on hold until the weather cleared.
By the time the DPi class took the green flag for qualifying, a dry line began to form. Jarvis used the entire session to post his quickest time of 1:10.791-seconds to lock in a spot on the second row for third for Sunday’s Lexus Grand Prix of Mid-Ohio.
“The car was really good and I think we had more there, which honestly is a bit frustrating,” admitted Jarvis. “There was some rain at the start of the session, so we were all in a rush to get a time in because we didn’t know how many laps we’d get. So that used our tires up a bit more than we would normally have and when I was able to get some clean laps later in the session, we had missed the window for the best lap. I am not sure if starting from third or second will be better, but hopefully we can just get a good start and move forward tomorrow.”
